The Science Behind Our Triggers

Ballistics is Physics.

1/2 of your mathematical equations are in Time. Arc-Seconds of Angle, Feet per Second and millisecond interval perceptions are examined. Huber Remington700 triggers defined:

You can use a lanyard on your cannon or the kick-starter on your Harley to initiate an action. With precision rifle fire from you the platform, aiming in time on target occurs in very short time increments (windows). The shooter is either tracking or trapping the target to a point in time to intersect bullet on target. Tracking a target is maintaining a rate of traverse unsure of time intervals. Trapping a target is as the target moving into line of sight at an unknown speed but more certain of the moment of intersection in time.

When sighting on target center of mass at say, 100 yards, and the shooter is both supporting the rifle and seeking moment to fire on-target. Operator usually performs a figure-8 or a G-pattern (last movement up) in movement across the target over many seconds. Most of time on or about the target, Aim is OFF target, shorter moments of on-target intervals on the order of 100-200ms. And the bullet leaves the muzzle in 0.0015sec. The normal human reaction time is 0.44 seconds (440 milliseconds). If your heartbeat is 72 beat/min., and your breathing 18/min., then your heart beats every 0.88 seconds (1/2 at rest). Rest period is 0.44sec. Beat, rest, beat, rest, beat, Fire (at rest). Breathing interval is 3.3sec (1/2 exhale), pause breathing to increase interval.

Fluorescent lights “blink @ 60Hz (10-20ms), do your eyes sense the dark intervals? European AC power is at 50Hz, or failing ballast which some people can discern. Cameras have shutter speeds down to 1/1000th of a second (motion blur with longer exposure). TV/ video refresh rate 1/32 second (31ms).

To catch a rabbit or a fly, your trap must be faster, quicker than the factors and target changes. Your visual and tactile percepts need to be able to understand sequence of time at a milli-second (0.001 seconds) speed.

John F. Huber (The Trigger Guy) believes the operator should be able to fire on target within a time window of ~50-150ms (1/6 seconds). To qualify rifle fire controls, the use of a computerized stepper-motor technology, the DVORAK trigger Scan instrument for showing the profile for energy, travel distances, lock-time and shoe weights over time. The simple pull gauge scale (Lyman) is a linear load-cell device, is insufficient to reproduce the complex mathematical forms of our trigger, have an improper refresh rate, and time application parameters. Results of the Dvorak are interpreted to the 3rd decimal, are reproducible, printable and traceable. Huber Concepts serializes each trigger for manufacturing consistency, and seals all settings as requested before shipment.

The Huber Concepts Remington 700 Staged-Break trigger uses higher order mathematics and unique geometry for differential, tactile, timing advantages. Timney & Jewell technologies (bell cranks & levers) have been around for 30-60 years and are shown to stack time. Results have been consistent and repeatable, but without regard to a time base.

The Huber R700 triggers are covered by US Patents 8,132,349; 8,677,665 & Patents pending, and are designed more for the shooter than for the rifle. First to be a shot-timer for the most versatile trigger; the trigger has evolved to have redundant safeties RH, LH, Bottom TRG. Versatility in single-stage as low as .271# or two-stage from 1.5# where you break the trigger from 3/4# to 1.5#, NOT from 0 (3/4# break weight). As most people think integers (whole numbers), I think exponents in form. The effect is closer Sensing of the apparent break moment, not the anticipated break moment. If the shot is fired on time, perception that the firing occurred instantaneously to the perceived on-target moment. The Dvorak plots the trigger; the break weight specified is achieved and shot released in a short increment of time & travel. Lyman pull gauge limit 12 pounds; can NOT determine time or travel, or the Wall. Dvorak calibrated at 20 pounds and accurate to .001 values in energies, pressures time and travels. The actual chart is shipped with each trigger like a fingerprint. When your finger is married up, force is spread over the finger uniformly, minimizing lost time and tissue deformation through pressure and travel changes in the shot sequence.
